Aromatherapy Applications:
Not considered for aromatherapy use due to containing some compounds which are considered internally toxic. Wormwood is the main ingredient in the famed green absinthe liqueur that is outlawed for import into the U.S. due to its halicinogenic effects and toxicity from thujone.
Characteristics:
A dark green or bluish oil with a spicy, warm, bitter-green odor and a sharp, fresh top note. It blends well in minute quantities with oakmoss, jasmine, neroli, lavender, and ambrette seed.
Principal Constituents:
Thujone (up to 71%), azulenes, terpenes.
General Actions:
Abortifacient, anthelmintic, choleretic, deodorant, emmenagogue, febrifuge, insect repellent, narcotic, stimulant (digestive), tonic, vermifuge.
Safety:
Toxic. Abortifacient: Do not use during pregnancy.
